Summer Shakespeare Festival 2003

The Summer Shakespeare Festival in 2003 was under the influence of Hamlet: next to repeated King Lear the Prague´s Castle ruled also Prince of Denmark starring energetic Jiří Langmajer. Tickets in Prague and Brno disappeared from booking office in middle of July and The Festival visited more than 40 000 people. The news was performance of Středočeské divadlo Kladno (As you like it and Romeo and Juliet) and TNT Theatre Britain with Hamlet in English. Critical review expressed appreciation to The Summer Shakespeare Festival and mainly considered the stable quality, which established The Festival on the top of the summer culture events. Director Lucie Bělohradská and actor Jiří Langmajer were nominated for many local theatre awards. The Festival was closed by recorded King Lear on Czech Television. For the first time was open up to 7 days a week and the traditional stages were increased by historic Spiš Castle in Slovakia. More here
